Merah Putih Village Cooperatives: Advancing Economic Equity

President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision is exemplified in the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives (Kopdes Merah Putih), which aim to achieve true independence through economic self-reliance and equitable development. According to Fithra Faisal, a Senior Expert at the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) in Jakarta, the President’s programs are aligned with the Asta Cita vision of building economic equity and eradicating poverty from the grassroots level. The launch of over 80,000 Kopdes Merah Putih cooperatives in Bentangan Village, Wonosari District, Klaten Regency, Central Java, emphasized the importance of economic well-being alongside national symbols. President Prabowo highlighted that cooperatives represent collective efforts to improve the lives of all individuals. These cooperatives, according to Fithra, will serve as catalysts for inclusive economic growth by empowering communities and following the philosophy of development as freedom introduced by Nobel laureate Amartya Sen. The aim is to foster grassroots participation, boost rural economies, and enhance the quality of life for farmers and fishers by addressing issues such as low exchange values and income. The storage facilities, logistics support, and reduced dependency on middlemen provided by Kopdes Merah Putih will help preserve produce, increase value, and create new rural jobs to prevent youth migration to urban areas. Ultimately, these cooperatives seek to create opportunities for young people to build a future in their villages and stimulate local economies.
